Raised on the outskirts of picturesque Thunder
Bay, Ontario near the shores of Lake Superior,
Lori grew up in a rural setting surrounded by
n
ature.   She recalls having art as part of her
life throughout her childhood and teen years,
but put away her pencils when
she moved to
Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1994
to focus on her
studies in the
Civil Engineering Technology
program at Red River College
.  Upon
graduating she persued, and has achieved,
a
successful
career as a Technical Sales
Representative and
Estimator for a major
building component manufacturer
in Winnipeg.
Once again she
is able to enjoy the freedom
and unlimited boundaries
that art provides
with an entirely new perspective
.  Residing at
her
beautiful 5 acre home based studio-retreat
with her wonderful husband,  a
n Australian
Cattle Dog, a French Bulldog and a few other
scaley critters is where she finds peace and is
inspired to create.

Mediums & Methods used

I work primarily in oil pastel and acrylic paint.  I love the vibrant colours that are achieved with both of
these mediums.  Oil pastels are applied layer upon layer of colour in thick heavy coats, blending them
together with paper towels, turpenoid, Q-Tips, erasers and my favorite blending tool, my fingers.  I use
Holbein and Sennelier artist quality oil pastels which are of archival quality and light fast.  I work mainly
on Wallis and Colourfix sanded papers, Rising Stonehenge paper and archival mat board.  All pieces
are either framed behind glass or coated with Sennelier Oil Pastel fixative to ensure the work is
protected from dust and contact.

Other mediums of choice include artist quality soft pastels, charcoal, graphite and colour pencil.

Her interests are diverse.  Ranging from whimsical prairie landscapes; beloved
pets and still life works.
She especially loves drawing buildings and structures
that are askew and a bit surreal as a departure from the engineering world where
everything has to be so  precise.  Her goal is to find the voice and energy of her
subjects by not just recreating reality, but by creating something entirely new
and interesting.
Utilizing a wide range of mediums such as Acrylic paint, oil and
soft pastels, colour pencils, graphite, charcoal and ink
helps her to achieve her
works
.

Lori has been a student of Milos Milidrag (MFA - University of Belgrade) studying
acrylic painting and figurative drawing for the past two years.
