Ingeneraré

Artist Statement

SERIES: INGENERARÉ

Ingenarare –Latin verb meaning ‘to create’; root word for engineer.

These composite works are the first studies in a series that unites two major facets of my life, art and engineering.  I examine the similarities between the disciplines through a belief that to be successful both the artist and engineer must possess like attributes. Qualities such as the skillful use of tools, knowledge of materials, planning, problem solving, innovative thinking, ability to push boundaries and a keen imagination are common to both.

Each work has been designed to stand-alone or simultaneously act as a vital component to a larger visually ‘engineered’ piece, authentically transforming into new conceptual work.  The contrast of traditional materials and vintage influence against contemporary elements and modern philosophies is intended to spark discourse involving the female roll in the past, present and future of both fields.

This series is a work in progress that I aim to continue building upon.

These are photos from the show opening.  I will be photographing the work for the website once it’s back home after the show wraps up February 25th.

Study titles from L to R:  Moment of Forces, Shear Strength, Equilibrium, Yield Stress.
